When the summer crowds fade and the heat begins to cool, October becomes the perfect month to explore some of Europe’s most stunning spots.
This location, Italy’s largest island and one of the biggest in Europe, is where history, nature and culture all come together.
Covering nearly 10,000 square miles, it’s an island packed with variety, from ancient Greek temples in the west to beautiful Baroque towns in the southeast and dramatic volcanic scenery in the north.

In October, Sicily enjoys lovely mild weather, with daytime temperatures between 21°C and 25°C and cooler evenings.
It’s still warm enough to take a dip in the Mediterranean, especially along the southern coastline, but comfortable enough for wandering through old towns or hiking up Mount Etna without the summer heat.
It’s also harvest season, bringing fresh olives, chestnuts, mushrooms and plenty of local wine.
Across the island, village food festivals known as sagre celebrate regional specialities – from pistachios in Bronte to creamy ricotta in the Madonie Mountains.
Tasting these seasonal dishes with a glass of Nero d’Avola or Etna Rosso is one of the best parts of visiting at this time of year.

Travelling to Sicily in autumn also means better prices and fewer crowds. Flights and hotels are often cheaper, and instead of packed tourist areas, you’ll find relaxed cafés, quiet beaches and locals enjoying the slower pace of the season.
It’s the perfect balance of peace and liveliness without the rush of high summer.
No trip to Sicily would be complete without visiting Taormina, a hilltop town known for its elegant squares, narrow lanes and incredible views over Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea.
Its ancient Greek theatre, still used for concerts and events, is a highlight. Another must-see is the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with ancient ruins surrounded by olive groves that shimmer golden in the autumn sun.
