The overlooked Mediterranean island that’s becoming a holiday hotspot for over-60s

A hidden Mediterranean treasure is fast becoming a top choice for older holidaymakers, and it’s not Spain, Portugal or Greece.

Cyprus is quietly rising in popularity, especially with travellers aged 60 and above, as more Brits look for destinations that feel familiar yet still offer something new.

According to recent data from travel insurance provider Just Travel Cover, there has been a 68% increase in insurance policies for trips to Cyprus compared to last year.

For travellers over 60, the number of travel insurance quotes for Cyprus has risen by 20%, showing a clear shift away from the usual European beach favourites.

For many British tourists, Cyprus offers the perfect mix of comfort and discovery, with its friendly locals and relaxed Mediterranean charm.

The company notes that English is widely spoken across the island, and since driving is on the left-hand side, British visitors often find it easy to get around without feeling out of place.

Even so, Cyprus still feels like a completely different world. Just a short flight from the UK, the island has a slower, calmer pace of life that’s perfect for anyone wanting to unwind and escape the rush of everyday life.

According to the Met Office, average temperatures in October reach a lovely 26.7°C, making it an ideal time to stroll along golden beaches or explore the island’s ancient ruins without the busy summer crowds.

One of the island’s most famous beaches is Nissi Beach, a Blue Flag spot known for its bright white sand and sparkling turquoise sea, perfect for swimming or relaxing under the sun.

Other must-visit beaches include Fig Tree Bay in Protaras, which has shallow clear waters and an old fig tree said to date back to the 17th century, as well as Coral Bay near Paphos, a peaceful stretch of sand surrounded by cliffs and tall palm trees.
