With the colder months approaching, many Brits are looking for somewhere warm to escape to.
Car rental company SIXT has revealed the European destinations with the clearest blue waters, perfect for anyone dreaming of sunshine and sea instead of grey skies.
The company shared the top place to visit, and it stays around 25°C in October, making it an ideal spot for an autumn holiday.
They said: “Malta is a stunning island just off the coast of Sicily, Italy. It offers a great mix of experiences, from the lively city vibe of Valletta to relaxing beach resorts in St Paul’s Bay.”

What makes this Mediterranean “gem” even better for an October break is that daytime temperatures can still climb to 25°C, giving visitors plenty of sunshine to enjoy.
During autumn, Malta’s temperatures rarely drop below 18°C, which makes it pleasantly warm for exploring or spending time by the sea.
The experts added: “The Blue Lagoon in Malta is a must-see for tourists, famous for its bright turquoise waters and colourful pineapple drinks.”
They also warned that with tourism continuing to grow and 3.7 million visitors expected this year, new rules now limit access to 4,000 people per day, meaning you’ll need to book your visit in advance.
“Ranked as having the second bluest water in Europe, the Blue Grotto in Wied iż-Żurrieq features sea caves, dramatic rock arches and calm, crystal-clear turquoise water,” the experts explained.
Even better, you can enjoy a boat tour of the caves for just €10, with no long wait times. There’s also an area nearby for swimming, where visitors can take their time and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

The experts added: “That’s why the Blue Grotto is a great alternative, with the same incredible blue scenery but far fewer crowds, making it perfect for photos and quiet relaxation.”
Another Mediterranean destination with warm weather in October is Sardinia, which is famous for its white sandy beaches and clear blue sea.
Like Malta, Sardinia gives visitors the choice between a city-style holiday in its capital, Cagliari, or a more laid-back beach escape along its beautiful coastline.
Both islands promise sunshine, soft sands and some of the clearest waters in Europe, making them ideal choices for a late-year getaway.
