Soaked in classic Andalusian style, this traditional Spanish town, still largely untouched by mass tourism, has earned a reputation as a true haven for food lovers.
Sitting in the middle of Malaga province, this whitewashed town is surrounded by the natural scenery of the Valle de Guadalhorce region.
Offering visitors a genuine taste of local life, it packs in plenty of sights despite being fairly small.

One highlight is the Church of the Incarnation, built in the 1500s on the remains of an old Arab mosque.
The impressive church was redesigned in the 1800s with a smart neoclassical look, complete with a grand bell tower.
Anyone wanting a peaceful escape should head to Parque de la Libertad, a green space filled with waterfalls and fountains.
Covering more than 4,400 square metres, this lovely park lined with Mediterranean and native trees is perfect for gentle strolls or simply relaxing and soaking up the scenery.
A lot of the town’s charm also comes from its countryside, where a mix of hiking paths lead you through beautiful olive trees and citrus groves.

Recently, this inland town has also earned a place on Spain’s well-known list of Pueblos Gastronómicos, which means Gastronomic Villages.
At the top of the local food favourites is a classic Andalusian bread called pan cateto, a dark and rustic village loaf. This traditional bread is one of the most typical in the region, especially around Málaga.
Made with durum wheat and baked slowly in wood-fired ovens, this delicious loaf keeps fresh for several days. Another local favourite in Alhaurín el Grande is Cachorreñas, a warming Andalusian soup perfect for chilly winter evenings.
Made with tomato, garlic, eggs, salted fish, bread and orange, this comforting dish is beloved by locals, so much so that it is celebrated each year with its very own festival.
