October in the UK usually brings dull skies, chilly weather and lots of rain.
But in other parts of Europe, there are still places where the sun is out and it feels as if summer is hanging on a little longer.
One of these places is Italy, a country loved for its amazing food, history and warm climate.
And while the summer months attract big crowds and higher prices, October offers a much calmer and more relaxed experience.

With far fewer visitors, many of Italy’s prettiest destinations become cheaper, quieter and much nicer to explore.
Hotels lower their prices, it’s easier to get a table at popular restaurants, and you can wander around without feeling rushed.
Italy has plenty of wonderful cities, but one that many people describe as especially charming is Bologna, and getting there can be surprisingly cheap.
At the moment, Ryanair has direct one-way flights from London Stansted to Bologna for only £15 in October.
And with daytime temperatures of around 20C, it’s an ideal choice for catching some late-season sunshine.
Bologna is famous for its red-coloured buildings, endless archways and relaxed atmosphere.
It’s also home to the oldest university in the Western world, giving the city a lively mix of history, art and culture.

One of its standout features is the Portici di Bologna – a huge network of covered walkways stretching more than 60km (37 miles) throughout the city. These make it simple to explore on foot, whatever the weather is like.
Food is another huge attraction here. Bologna is the birthplace of tagliatelle al ragu (often wrongly called spaghetti bolognese elsewhere), and you can enjoy dishes like tortellini, mortadella and lasagne in cosy local restaurants.
Popular landmarks include the Two Towers (Asinelli and Garisenda), which lean above the city’s rooftops. You can climb Asinelli for incredible views across Bologna.
The main square, Piazza Maggiore, is where people gather to enjoy gelato, listen to street music and admire the beautiful Basilica di San Petronio.
