Stunning beach along the Mediterranean’s longest coastline that few tourists visit

Summer is almost here and many people across the UK will be dreaming of a sunny getaway.

Greece is always a favourite choice, but there is one beautiful beach that many visitors do not know about.

This beach sits in the quieter south eastern corner of Crete and is said to have the longest coastline in the Mediterranean.

The beach is known for its soft white sand and clear blue water, making it an ideal place to relax in the sunshine.

The area is also dotted with caves and a nearby bay that is perfect for a picnic. Tall mountains rise behind the beach, creating a dramatic view that makes the setting even more impressive.

That said, travellers should be aware that reaching the beach is not easy. Xerocambos is tucked away and far from busy resorts, meaning the journey involves narrow and winding roads.

According to Time Out, visitors should travel from the town of Sitia to the mountain village of Armeni before driving along what has been described as one of Greece’s scariest roads. The route twists along a deep gorge before opening up to quiet, almost empty coves.

Once you arrive at Xerocambos Beach, there are a handful of tavernas and small guesthouses where you can stay.

On TripAdvisor, Akti Rooms is often recommended and offers apartments close to the beach.

Many visitors have shared glowing reviews of Xerocambos Beach on TripAdvisor.

One person said the beach was excellent, with free sunbeds, cheap coffee and amazing views, adding that the sea was wonderful and well worth visiting.

Another reviewer described it as a hidden paradise with stunning views. They said the water was very clean and perfect for swimming, making it ideal for anyone looking for peace and natural beauty.

A third visitor praised the views and enjoyed watching yachts and fishing boats arrive.

They also mentioned seeing the fresh catch taken straight into the kitchen of the beachfront taverna Aloni, along with a couple of other nearby places to eat.
