A lively and lesser-known city that many say is just as beautiful as Florence makes a great choice for an April trip.
The city enjoys temperatures of around 21C in April and offers plenty for visitors to enjoy. From impressive buildings to buzzing evenings out, it has something for everyone.
Often nicknamed the Little Paris of the East, it brings together grand old buildings, reminders of its communist past and modern high-rise towers.

One of the city’s most famous landmarks is the Palace of the Parliament. It is the second largest administrative building in the world, after the Pentagon.
This huge structure represents Romania’s communist history and is a popular stop for anyone interested in the past.
The Old Town is another area you should not miss. Its historic streets are packed with cosy cafés, lively bars and restaurants, making it the heart of the city’s nightlife.
One user shared their thoughts on the Tripadvisor forum, saying the city centre is amazing and full of choice.
They mentioned museums, old palaces, historic buildings, cafés and restaurants, adding that staying in the centre makes it easy to explore everything on foot. They also suggested using the Bucharest tourist card to see the whole city

The reviewer also pointed out the shopping centres, open food markets and famous sights around the city. They said Bucharest is large and worth taking time to explore properly if you can.
Food in Bucharest is influenced by Romanian, Ottoman, Greek and French cooking.
Popular dishes to try include sarmale, which are cabbage rolls, mămăligă, a type of polenta, and papanasi, sweet fried doughnuts served with cream and jam.
Getting around the city is simple thanks to its well-run public transport. Visitors can use buses, trams, trolleybuses and the metro. Taxis and ride-hailing apps like Uber, Bolt and Yango are also easy to use.
