New Spanish beach rule could hit British tourists with fines of up to £1,600

Holidaymakers hoping to enjoy the sunshine in Spain this summer are being warned to take care when it comes to vaping.

Specialists at One Sure Insurance have shared advice for the 5.6 million Brits who vape, reminding them that using e-cigarettes on Spanish beaches could lead to legal trouble.

Spain is popular for its affordable breaks and stunning beaches, but new rules have changed what visitors can do.

A recently introduced law bans vaping on many public beaches. Anyone who ignores the rule could be fined up to £1,600, which is around 1,900 euros.

This is very different to the rules in the United Kingdom, where vaping in public places is usually allowed.

In the UK, businesses and venue owners decide their own rules, and vaping is often permitted at outdoor events. In Spain, however, many public beaches are now classed as no-vaping areas.

The experts said they strongly encourage British travellers to check local rules before going abroad to avoid unexpected fines.

They also explained that some other countries have taken similar steps, including France. This followed the example of Belgium, which became the first EU nation to ban the sale of disposable vapes.

So while relaxing on the beach with a vape might seem harmless, breaking these rules could end up being very costly.

Spain has tightened its laws around vaping in public spaces, including beaches, due to worries about health and damage to the environment.

Anyone planning to vape while abroad should make sure they understand the local laws before they travel.

This is especially important in Spain, where some beaches have strict bans in place. Checking official government advice before your trip can help you stay informed and avoid fines.

If you are unsure, it is safer to avoid vaping on beaches where rules may apply.
