New Asia travel alert as holidaymakers urged to avoid unsafe area after volcanic eruption

Britons have been issued a travel alert for Indonesia, with the UK Government advising against visiting a specific area.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has warned Britons not to travel within seven kilometres of the crater of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki.

Holidaymakers were informed: "The FCDO advises against all travel within 7km of the crater of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki on Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province."

This exclusion zone has been set by local authorities after Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki erupted on November 3, 2024.

The eruption tragically claimed at least 10 lives and affected seven villages, resulting in widespread evacuations.

The volcano’s alert status was raised to its highest level, and the local government declared a state of emergency for 58 days.

Indonesia is renowned for its breathtaking beaches, vibrant coral reefs, adventurous hiking trails, diverse wildlife, and mouth-watering cuisine. Bali, in particular, remains a top bucket list destination for many travellers.

The Indonesian province has even been named the "most picturesque" place on Earth, offering visitors "once-in-a-lifetime" experiences.

However, before planning a trip to Indonesia, it’s crucial to check the FCDO’s latest advice for the destination.

This includes updated information on travel warnings, insurance requirements, entry protocols, safety and security risks, regional hazards, health concerns, and emergency assistance.

Earlier this year, Britons were reminded they must complete a new form to avoid being denied entry into the scenic country.

It’s always wise for Britons to review the FCDO’s travel advice for their chosen destination before booking, ensuring a safe and well-prepared holiday.
