Beautiful city just three hours from the UK is one of the best places to spot the Northern Lights in October

A European city is known as one of the top places in the world to see the magical Northern Lights.

This natural display is on many people’s travel wish lists, and this city is one of the best spots to finally witness it for yourself.

This place in Iceland offers plenty of special tours made for “light hunting” during the main viewing season, but catching the lights isn’t always as simple as you might think.

October is one of the best months to go, with long, dark evenings that aren’t too cold, making the trips much more comfortable.

The skies are clearer at this time of year too, so your chances of seeing the lights are higher. It’s also quieter, as it isn’t the busiest tourist season.

People who have travelled to Iceland to see the Northern Lights often describe the experience as unforgettable.

One visitor who joined the Reykjavik Excursions Northern Lights Tour posted a review on Tripadvisor saying: "After spending time at one location observing various different light shows, we were taken to another.

We thought we had seen the best of the Northern Lights and were all strapped in ready to head back, when the bus lights went off, Kalli switched off the engine and told us to get off the bus quick.

"The Northern Lights show we then experienced was out of this world, Kalli crying out, 'It's a corona!', the best of the spectacles. Thanks to him and his persistence, we experienced something truly magical".

TimeOut’s Jamie Inglis also shared what it was like watching the lights in Iceland, writing: “I caught a hint of the Northern Lights on the edge of Reykjavik, and then saw them again further out in Iceland.

In their full glory, the lights danced across the sky in greens, blues, purples and everything in-between, at mind-boggling scale.”
