Summer might be over, but if you still want some sunshine, this lovely European city could be just what you’re looking for.
Every year, British holidaymakers head to the Greek islands for warm weather and soft sandy beaches.
There are so many islands to choose from, but this one has travellers talking about how friendly and relaxing it is.

Research from Booking.com shows that Ermoupoli, the capital of Syros, is one of the most welcoming cities in Europe.
As it isn’t a major tourist hotspot, its beaches stay peaceful and quiet, according to the Mediterranean Traveller.
The town began in the 19th century and was named after Hermes, the Greek god. During the Greek Revolution, it became an important industrial and trading centre for the whole country.
Although Piraeus later became Greece’s main port, Ermoupoli remained an important hub for the Cyclades, and its economy still does well today.
The Syros Cyclades website explains that visitors can enjoy beautiful neoclassical buildings and a stylish atmosphere that dates back to the 1800s when many refugees arrived from nearby islands and Asia Minor after the Greek Revolution of 1821.

There is plenty to see around the city, including Miaouli Square and the impressive Town Hall, designed by German architect Ernst Ziller.
Anyone interested in history and culture should visit the Archaeological Museum of Syros, the Apollo Theatre and the Cultural Centre of Ermoupolis.
TripAdvisor is full of glowing reviews about Ermoupolis, with one visitor especially recommending the Church of The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
They wrote: “Built between 1826 and 1829 by refugees from the island of Psara, it is the second oldest church in Ermoupolis after the main church further up, the Metropolis Metamorfoseos Sotiros (which doesn’t have a Tripadvisor entry).”
