Tiny city only two hours from the UK praised as one of the easiest to explore on foot

This lovely city makes a great choice for a short break and is an ideal place to visit in spring.
It is known for its storybook look, with cobbled streets, canals and historic buildings.
It is easy to reach for a weekend trip by flying to Brussels and then taking a short train ride into the heart of the city.
One visitor wrote on Tripadvisor: “Amazing. One of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited.
So much history and stunning architecture. I highly recommend it.” Another added: “Oh wow. I love it here. Gorgeous cobbled streets and historic buildings everywhere.

They continued: “We walked around, stopping for coffee along the way. I loved the atmosphere, and the streets were not too busy at this time of year. There is so much more to see.”
A top attraction you should not miss is the Basilica of the Holy Blood. Inside the chapel is a small vial that is believed to hold the blood of Christ, brought back during the Crusades.
The church itself is also well worth a visit. It stands out for its beautiful design, detailed features and impressive interior that many visitors find unforgettable.

While exploring the city, be sure to try a classic Belgian waffle. These can be topped with chocolate, cream, strawberries or many other sweet treats to suit your taste.
Another must try food is Belgian fries, which are sold all over Bruges. They are easy to spot and make a perfect snack while walking around the city.
Bruges is known for being very easy to explore on foot. Walking is the best way to see the city, and you can cover most areas without needing buses or trams.
As you wander through the streets, you may come across Minnewater Lake. It is a peaceful spot and a lovely place to stop if you enjoy being near open water.
