Car hire prices have climbed sharply in recent months, but British travellers hoping to save money might want to consider a city break where walking is all that’s needed.
Language learning platform Preply has analysed data to find Europe’s most pedestrian-friendly cities, revealing destinations where visitors can forget about renting a car altogether.
The research highlighted cities where the main attractions are all within easy walking distance.

Oxford took the top spot in the UK, a beautiful Spanish city claimed the title of Europe’s most walkable destination. Seville, the vibrant capital of Andalusia, topped the rankings with an average of just 20 minutes between its key landmarks, according to the Mirror.
Known as the birthplace of tapas, Seville is bursting with culture, history and lively celebrations that showcase the true spirit of Spain.
One of the top-rated attractions on Tripadvisor, Plaza de España, enchants visitors with its grand 1928 design and offers relaxing boat rides along its picturesque canals.
A visitor wrote on Tripadvisor: “Absolutely stunning! This was the highlight of my trip to Seville.”

Beyond the famous plaza, other must-see spots include the Real Alcázar de Sevilla, the city’s magnificent Cathedral, and the peaceful Parque de María Luisa, which provides a lovely escape from the busy streets.
Autumn is the perfect season to discover Seville, as the summer months often bring scorching heat reaching up to 40 degrees, while autumn days stay pleasantly warm and ideal for exploring on foot.
