If you want to make the most of the sunshine before winter sets in, this European island is just over two hours from the UK and offers far more than just pleasant weather.

From historic villages to rugged coastlines, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

As the second-largest island in the Mediterranean, Sardinia combines fascinating history with stunning scenery.

The island stays warm throughout the autumn months, meaning you can keep your summer going and enjoy beach weather well into late October.

October brings slightly cooler temperatures and a bit more rain, but visitors can still expect averages between 15°C and 24°C. These are close to its summer highs of around 26°C, while the coldest months, like December, drop to about 11°C.

La Pelosa Beach in northwest Sardinia is ranked as the top thing to do on TripAdvisor.

Famous for its powdery white sand and striking blue water, it also offers views of a 16th-century watchtower rising from the sea, making it one of the island’s most photographed spots.

Sardinia’s capital city, Cagliari, sits on the southern coast and is home to one of the island’s main airports, Cagliari Elmas Airport.

However, for many UK travellers, direct flights to Olbia Airport in the northeast are often easier to find and more convenient.
