This city is the perfect place for a holiday in 2025, yet it’s often overlooked by British travellers.
This Spanish gem is an underrated destination, despite being one of the most fascinating cities in the country.
Cadiz is one of Europe’s oldest cities, giving visitors the chance to step back in time while exploring its rich history.
The city dates back to around 1100 BC and was originally founded by the Phoenicians—though legend claims that Hercules himself created Cadiz.

It’s famous for its stunning coastline, beautiful gardens, and lively squares filled with historic architecture.
While in Cadiz, you can stroll through the charming streets, enjoy al fresco dining in the squares, and relax on its golden sandy beaches.
One must-visit spot is Torre Tavira, an 18th-century watchtower that stands at the highest point of the city.
A visitor on TripAdvisor shared: **“The views were amazing. When you arrive in Cadiz, visit Torre Tavira first—the staff are really helpful and explain the best viewing options.

“Pay to climb to the top for breathtaking 360-degree views. From there, you can plan what to explore over the next couple of days.
“As a bonus, learning about the city's lookout towers was fascinating, and there was some great artwork on the way up. If you're in Cadiz, this is definitely worth doing.”**
One of the best beaches in the city is Playa La Caleta, which is best reached on foot from Cadiz Old Town.
This beach is a local favourite, known for its soft golden sand and peaceful atmosphere.
A TripAdvisor reviewer wrote: “We had an amazing time here. I loved swimming in the sea—it was calm, the sand was beautiful, and we’ll definitely come back if we visit Cadiz again.”
To reach Cadiz, you’ll need to fly to Jerez De La Frontera Airport, located 30 miles away, as the city itself doesn’t have its own airport.
