Foreign Office issues alert to Brits travelling to popular holiday spot following reported 'deaths'

Officials have issued new advice for travellers heading to the region following reports of fatalities.

Brits visiting a popular holiday destination have been given a fresh warning by the Foreign Office after several deaths were reported.

The Government has shared safety advice for UK travellers heading to the Red Sea, as safety standards in the area can vary.

The Foreign Office stated online: "There have been recent incidents involving British nationals on diving boats and tours in the Red Sea. Some of these have sadly resulted in fatalities.

"Safety standards among Red Sea resort diving operators and boats can be very different. Some providers may not offer proper safety measures or insurance coverage."

Visitors are advised to check safety rules on board, be cautious, book tours through trusted operators, and stay informed about weather conditions.

They have also been warned not to dive or snorkel alone, and to always have a dive buddy or guide. Going beyond the depth limit set by their insurance policy could make their cover invalid.

The Government added: "Ensure your travel insurance, or the tour or dive company, covers any air or sea rescue costs, which can exceed 4,000 US dollars per hour.

"Egyptian authorities will only begin rescue operations once they have confirmed payment. Book activities through your resort or with approved agents and tour operators."

Officials also warned of possible risks from wildlife, stating: "Shark attacks are rare, but there have been incidents involving tourists in the Red Sea region.

"Stay updated by checking information from local authorities or your tour operator."

For desert trips, the Government has warned of serious quad bike accidents involving British nationals in resort areas.
