Seaside town with crystal-clear waters, known as a "budget-friendly Amalfi Coast"

There’s a lesser-known seaside town in Italy’s Calabria region that features stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters—and it’s affordable!

This Italian destination is becoming known as a budget-friendly, beautiful alternative to the popular Amalfi Coast.

It is a gorgeous coastal town in Calabria, stays relatively under the radar internationally, though it’s well-loved by Italians.

While five million people flock to the Amalfi Coast yearly, Tropea remains a hidden treasure.

TikTok travel influencer @haylsa, with over 430,000 followers, recently shared a video highlighting Tropea’s stunning beaches and clear blue waters.

She captioned it: "This place is insanely beautiful!! Just a six-hour train from Rome, it’s quieter and cheaper than Amalfi or Cinque Terre."

Tropea doesn’t have its own airport, but UK travellers can fly to Lamezia Terme International Airport, just 25 miles away. Flights start at about £50, with a three-hour travel time from the UK.

Tropea, a coastal gem in southern Italy’s Calabria region, is famous for its dramatic cliffs, pristine beaches, and turquoise waters.

Known for its charming old town, Tropea’s streets are lined with historic buildings, cafes, and shops offering authentic Italian flavours and goods.

One of Tropea’s most iconic sights is the Santa Maria dell'Isola monastery, perched on a cliff overlooking the sea. Unlike the busier Amalfi Coast, Tropea offers a quieter, budget-friendly escape, perfect for soaking up the sun and exploring Italian culture.
