British tourists visiting Spain will soon have to provide personal information each time they travel there, due to a controversial new law.
Starting in October, hoteliers will be required to share tourists' credit card details and contact information with the police, according to local reports.
Bank account details and home addresses may also be requested under the new rules.

At the moment, hotels and apartments only make copies of your passport or ID card to pass on to authorities.
The new law has been met with criticism from Spain’s tourism industry, with concerns it could violate privacy regulations.

Hotel owners have also complained that the law will add extra work for their already busy staff. In Majorca, meetings have been held between officials and tourism leaders to discuss the issue.
There are also worries that tourists might choose to visit other destinations if they don’t want to provide such personal information to the police.
However, the Spanish government has defended the new law, saying it will help improve safety across the country.
